Hello and welcome to Affogata’s podcast: Let’s talk customer feedback. We had the pleasure of hosting Fernando Ferri, Communications Manager, Team Lead at Wildlife. Fernando has been working in the video game industry for nine years now. He started as a Player Support Analyst, and quickly found his passion in helping players and giving them the best experience possible. Riot Games was his first experience in the industry, and he learned a lot about how big developers manage their massive player base and all the challenges that come with it. Fernando now works at Wildlife Studios as a Community Lead, and together they are building the best communities for their players.
That’s it, the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest is over. Congratulation to Duncan Laurence for winning the 2019 Eurovision trophy with his song Arcade. And good “morning after” to the Netherlands, keep enjoying the glee of victory At Affogata.com (previously Communit360), the voting process was a nail-biting experience.
Managing Social Media is much more than just publishing timely posts and answering customers’ concerns. It is also an incredible way to spot trends in real-time. Spotting trends that pertain to popular topics, such as major brands that are referred to hundreds or thousands of times per day, requires powerful analytical tools that yield compelling insights.
Brands don’t have it easy in the Internet age. Years of equity can be washed away in a moment by a careless social media post, a misstep in the marketplace or a piece of fake news -- all with the potential to be amplified with a mouse click. Needless to say, online brand management has become a critical discipline for the entire enterprise, from the C-suite down to the front lines
Building and protecting the brand is not the marketing department’s job alone. Employees in many departments have the opportunity and obligation to listen and respond to customers’ needs in a way that strengthens the company’s perceived value.
Social media is where your customers recommend products, discuss brands, and share their opinions about everything connected to your company. That’s why it’s a given that industries like computer and mobile games, consumer goods, apps, retail, and more use social listening tools. It helps brands to stay ahead of trends, gain product improvement ideas, measure their marketing success, and even improve customer satisfaction. No consumer-facing brand would allow social media conversations to go unmonitored.
We’ve all posted from time to time about a game we liked, hated, or just had a question about. So at Affogata we decided to see what people are posting most about, and how game developers and their community managers can see where they stand with their players. We used the Affogata platform to analyze the 20 top-grossing mobile games, examining all player posts on Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, and the Apple app store, and we made some interesting, and even surprising, discoveries.
Last October, comedy news website The Onion posted an amusing article about Cyberpunk 2077 allegedly penned by its developers entitled, "We Need to Come Clean, Cyberpunk 2077 is Just a Lie We Made Up To Make You Like Us That Got Way Out of Hand." It played on the idea that so many games that are hyped to the level of Cyberpunk wind up disappointing gamers, a fact painfully true for those who shelled out $60 on the most recent major release.
At Affogata, we surveyed 50 community managers to find out what's been driving them in 2020, and what are they excited about (or is keeping them up nights) as we move into 2021. From the results of the survey, we see that many CMs struggle to keep on top of their responsibilities without the right tools to help them with their tasks and are looking for guidance on getting the right tools in place.
Community managers need to live an omni-channel existence, but if you are spending most of your time hopping back and forth between Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and review sites to try to understand your customers and fans better, you may be missing out on a lot.
